Kieran Cody, M.D. of Bucks County Orthopedic Specialists has been recognized by the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic for his volunteer work at the clinic, receiving their Volunteer Physician of the Year Award for 2018. The Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic, formerly known as the Free Clinic of Doylestown, based in Doylestown Hospital, annually honors the medical professional who has made the greatest positive impact for both the clinic and their patients.
Dr. Cody is the only orthopedic surgeon in the region to volunteer in the clinic. He spends one afternoon per month in the clinic, in addition to surgical time, for the last five years. He sees patients, listens to their concerns, answers pressing questions, and provides treatment, including surgery as needed. Dr. Cody has partnered with Jefferson Imaging-Doylestown MRI to provide MRI services and performs surgeries at Doylestown Hospital, all at no cost to the patient.
The award was presented during a recent reception to celebrate volunteers at the Doylestown Country Club. Clinic Executive Director, Sally Fabian-Oresic, RN, MSN presented the award to Dr. Cody’s great surprise during the evening’s festivities. She remarked that the medical and surgical services he offers are invaluable to those in need, and expressed gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the many patients who have been able to get back to their lives thanks to Dr. Cody’s service. Also recognized was Dr. Cody’s father, Kevin Cody, PhD, who has volunteered at the Clinic for 19 years. “We’d actually like to thank the whole Cody family for their shared commitment to the Clinic and to those in need,” said Fabian-Oresic. “As always, Dad set the example and called my attention to this critical need,” said Dr. Kieran Cody after receiving the award. “I am delighted to be able to do my part by serving as a volunteer physician.”
More About the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic
In addition to free medical care for the uninsured, the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic stands out among other community clinics in the region by offering free dental care for uninsured patients residing in the Central Bucks County area. A patient must live within the nearby service area, be uninsured, and their household income must be within 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Patients are screened thoroughly for eligibility at least annually and must apply for government programs, such as Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP when requested.
It is believed approximately 1,200 uninsured, low-income people are capable of finding high-quality dental and medical care thanks to the volunteer clinic. While it is true that the Central Bucks area does have many affluent communities, there is also a large population of people living in the area who are low-income and uninsured. The charitable efforts of professionals like Dr. Cody help them stay hopeful and healthy.
