Dr. Kieran Cody Elected President of the Medical Staff of Doylestown Hospital

Decades of expertise and lifelong connections to Doylestown inform leadership role

undefinedDoylestown, PADr. Kieran Cody was recently elected President of the Medical Staff of Doylestown Hospital by a majority vote of medical staff. With his two-year term beginning in July 2019, Cody says, “being elected President is a great honor. With over 400 members of the medical staff, it is humbling to know they put their trust in me to lead our outstanding medical community.”

Doylestown Hospital, a part of Doylestown Health, encompasses over 50 specialties including services from childbirth to end of life care. As President of the Medical Staff, Cody leads the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee, and works directly with Chief Medical Officer, Scott Levy, MD and CEO Jim Brexler to represent the medical staff and coordinate, integrate and improve care across the spectrum of specialties.

A physician partner at Bucks County Orthopedic Specialist since 1996, Cody is a sports medicine specialist and surgeon. With decades of experience, he understands the symbiotic relationship between physicians, specialties, and the hospital. “The medical staff is diverse,” Cody explains. “From primary care to surgeons, hospital-employed physicians to independent physicians, and solo practitioners to those in larger groups. My goal is to represent all physicians and align these diverse groups around our shared goal of providing the highest quality, most cost-effective care available anywhere in the country.”

As a lifelong Doylestown resident, CB East grad, and father of 4 sons, Cody brings deep community connections to the role. Known as an exceptionally skilled and compassionate surgeon, he was awarded “Best Doctor” by Best of Bucks for 8 consecutive years, he has served as the President of the Bucks County Medical Society, worked as the team doctor for the CB East athletics for over two decades, has served on numerous hospital committees, and volunteers his expertise at the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic, earning “Volunteer Physician of the Year” honors last year.

Combining his community ties with technical expertise and hospital experience, Cody has a unique perspective on his role as the President of the Medical Staff. He explains, “the physicians and the hospital have a cooperative relationship: physicians need hospital services, and the hospital needs physicians to manage patient care. While hospital-employed physicians sometimes have a more direct line of communication, independent physicians also need a voice in hospital decisions that may affect their patient’s care. I am eager to represent all of these physicians to help achieve our common goals, which is ultimately to provide the best quality of care to the patients at Doylestown Hospital.”

“Doylestown Hospital has already been recognized repeatedly for our high level of expert care,” Cody continues. “I intend to continue to help Doylestown Hospital achieve regional, statewide, and national recognition for the excellent care we provide to our patients.”
