In the past, joint replacement surgery meant long, extended hospital stays for patients while they recuperate. Thanks to the medical innovations and pioneering work from Bucks County Orthopedic Specialists, this is no longer the case. Using our groundbreaking Heal@Home (H@H) Total Joint Program, our joint replacement surgery patients can recuperate almost entirely from the comfort of their own homes.
For many of our knee, shoulder, and hip joint replacement patients, we can have them in for surgery around 8:00 AM and back in their home by the afternoon. This incredible convenience brings peace of mind to those who might be hesitant to undergo joint replacement procedures. Our Heal@Home program focuses on rapidly restoring mobility and regular blood flow faster than traditional surgical techniques, which helps patients quickly get back to living a more active life.
Key benefits of our Heal@Home Total Joint Program are:
- No or minimal hospitalization: You do not have to feel nervous about being confined to a hospital room. We send you home same-day — or the next morning in rare circumstances — and your treatment is followed-up with routine checkups and care from a visiting nurse.
- Faster recovery: Heal@Home patients begin walking within an hour of surgery. A faster recovery process and improved blood flow are beneficial for better health overall.
- Less pain: Our advanced surgical techniques, pre-surgery preparation methods, intensive therapy regimens, and the comfort of being in your own home so quickly after joint replacement surgery are all key factors in lowering the potential pain during recovery. We also utilize personalized pain control treatments that work best for you.
- Lower costs: Under many insurance plans, total joint replacement surgery done on an outpatient basis can have much lower costs to the patient.
Are You Eligible for Heal@Home?
While our Heal@Home Total Joint Program is innovative and tremendously beneficial, it is important to note that not all patients may be eligible. Heal@Home patients must be in relatively good health, be highly motivated and capable of staying active before and after surgery, and have a family member or friend who is able to accompany them on their first day after surgery. Our physical therapy sessions are accelerated for H@H patients, and the care of our in-home nurses who come to visit you is also more intensive than typical rehabilitative therapy. The goal is getting you mobile again as soon as possible.
